TEST YOUR READING AGE

WHY DO WE USE A READING AGE TEST?

By completing a reading age test prior to starting Toe By Toe and then again following completion of the manual, schools and other academic institutions will be able to demonstrate the improvement in student’s reading ability.

The most effective way to establish if a reading or spelling intervention has been effective is to use ration gains.

Many UK studies report results not in standard scores but in reading and spelling ages, from which ratio gains can be calculated in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention.

Ratio Gains Explained
“I wanted to update you with my son’s progress with Toe By Toe. He is now aged 9y 10m and has just been assessed for his reading/spelling. He has a reading age of 11 and a reading comprehension age of 12+. I couldn’t believe it! What a result! Fred’s school now uses your books widely with the children, Toe By Toe and Stareway to Spelling. I don’t know why all schools don’t use these books as a matter of course. It’s a great way to teach children to read and write! Thanks again for helping my son.”

HOW DO WE KNOW IF A STUDENT NEEDS TOE BY TOE?

This test is designed to evaluate a student’s phonetic knowledge. Students who struggle to pronounce these sounds / nonsense words correctly will benefit from using Toe By Toe.
